HOUSE OF TODAY VACANCY |
Architect and designer Celine Stephan Eid designs this side-table and lamp structure entitled ‘Vacancy’ for the House of Today organization, working with emerging Lebanese designers. Using brushed brass and chrome, Celine creates a representation of her home city of Beirut, using the six spider-like legs to represent the pillars of society; politics, economics, culture, history, social and urban. Set in between the pillars, a clock, endlessly ticking but never displaying the time, a reference to the empty promises made by politicians. “The clock ticks endlessly, but does not display time. The clock ticks endlessly, but their inertia persists. Beyond the self-advertising spectacle of our pillars, our city’s present remains stagnant, as vacant as a timeless clock.” |
